Dawn Burns has been a gifted singer all her life. Her vocal style is firmly rooted in the soul, jazz and gospel traditions. Dawn has recorded with Darryl Buchanan, Dave Carlock, Marquis Hill, the West Angeles Church of God in Christ Mass Choir and Norman Hutchins with Kurt Carr as musical director. Her stylistic range is expressed in performances with Mike Struwin’s Rootsdown Band, Darryl Buchanan’s soulful Motown/R&B ensembles, Babylon Sneakers (covering the music of Steely Dan) and Fillmore’s Ladder, a Grateful Dead tribute band. She has performed with great musicians: Gladys Knight, Bryan Clark Lubeck, Audley Reid, Wycliffe Gordon, Leo Nocentelli and Shanice and has worked with producers including Dave Carlock, Ron Wynans and David Foster.

Dawn’s band always has laid back urban, soulful jazz grooves – her primary influences are Sade, Erykah Badu and Ella Fitzgerald. She brings flavor and a mellifluous, sensual vibe to every musical experience, always working with top-level musicians in her solo projects.
